When I was young I used to hoard all the GTO volumes because goddamn it relates so much to my delinquent teen years. They made several adaptations of GTO including live action series but let’s be real here nothing beat reading the Manga. The story revolves around Eikichi Onizuka who is a 22-year-old ex-gang member and a virgin. While peeping up girls’ skirts at a local shopping mall, Onizuka meets a girl who agrees to go out on a date with him. Onizuka’s attempt to sleep with her fails when her current “boyfriend”, her teacher, shows up at the love hotel they are in and asks her to return to him. The teacher is old and unattractive, but has sufficient influence over her that she leaps from a second-story window and lands in his arms.

Slam Dunk
Author : Takehiko Inoue 井上 雄彦

The year 2020 Where you can read and watch all sorts of sport-related animes and mangas such as Kuroko’s Basketball and Haikyu!! Here’s another classic on our list. Either I’m getting old or the nostalgic feel of old anime made me sad for some reason. The Story is about Hanamichi Sakuragi who’s a delinquent and the leader of a gang. Sakuragi is very unpopular with girls, having been rejected an astonishing fifty times. In his first year at Shohoku High School, he meets Haruko Akagi, the girl of his dreams, and is overjoyed when she is not repulsed or scared of him like all the other girls he has asked out.

Solo Leveling
Author : Chu-Gong 추

Solo Leveling is one of our favorite non-Japanese manga (Manhwa) of all time. Excellent art design and very interesting story line. If you like Sword Art Online and Log Horizon, you might want to check this title out! This Manhwa is about a portal that appeared suddenly and connect the real world to a world full of monsters and creatures of all kinds, some people have acquired powers and the ability to hunt them: they are called hunters. One day, he and other hunters find themselves trapped in an extremely dangerous dungeon, and only a few of them survive and manage to escape. Sung Jin-Woo himself hardly survives and is the only one who completes all the trials in this dungeon. He then turns into a “player” who can now see an interface showing him quests. Will he succeed in becoming the most powerful hunter?

Author : Junji Ito 伊藤 潤二

Any hardcore fans of Junji Ito would recognize this masterpiece. If you like horror and don’t know what to pick, try this title instead. Not to be confused with Uzumaki Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto. Uzumaki follows a high-school teenager, Kirie Goshima (五島桐絵); her boyfriend, Shuichi Saito (斎藤秀一); and the citizens of the small, fictional Japanese town of Kurouzu-cho (黒渦町, Black Vortex Town), which is cursed by supernatural events involving spirals. As the story progresses, Kirie and Shuichi witness how the spiral curse affects the people around them, causing the citizens to become obsessed or paranoid about spirals. Shuichi becomes reclusive after both of his parents die from the horrific psychological and physical powers of the spirals.

Maoujou de Oyasumi (Sleepy Princess In The Demon Castle)
Author: Kagiji Kumanomata 熊之股鍵次

The synopsis is literally in the title. It’s about a princess who just wanted peace and quite. Again, don’t let the cover art fool you. This one’s here is a personal favorite! What evils will Princess Aurora Sya Lis Goodereste have to face while she waits for a brave and strong hero to rescue her?—is what the humans wonder, but the princess is more concerned with finding a nice place to get a good night’s rest, and woe to anyone who gets in her way.

The number 1 recommendation on our list is Samurai 8! This Samurai X Cyberpunk is truly one of a kind. Sure there’s a lot of Cyberpunk-ish anime in the past but this is from the creator of Naruto and Boruto. Check it out! Now, you might be disappointed when I tell you they canceled the series officially not to long ago. Don’t let that negativity hold you from reading the manga.
